THIS IS THE REASON WHY IT’S TRADITION FOR BRIDES TO WEAR A VEIL ON THEIR DAY- FASCINATING!

Brides often choose wedding dresses, tiaras, veils just because of the fashion trends. Some like a little one, some go for a full veil. However, the choice is always theirs and we think that all the women should know the old real reason of this tradition.

If we go back in time, we can see the difference in the historical line:

  1. TO CHASE AWAY EVIL DEMONS

This tradition existed in ancient Rome, where the brides wore full-length veils called flam meum, with the purpose to cover their entire bodies. They weren’t white, but red in order to confuse the evil demons and avoid their curses.

  1. TO HIDE THE BRIDE’S FACE

Back then,  the bride and the groom didn’t know each other, so a bride wearing a veil would help her hide her face until the very last minute, just in case the groom didn’t find them beautiful and wanted to cancel the wedding.

  1. TO SYMBOLIZE VIRGINITY

The white color of the veil symbolized the virginity and pureness of a girl, it was considered a proof that her hymen is intact.

  1. TO PROVE THAT THEY ARE LOVED EVERYTHING THAT THEY ARE

In Jewish culture, the veil is a symbol of a divine love, aside from her beauty. When the bride and groom stand under the chupah, they are in an elevated state, as they are about to unite as one. In the bride, this elevated state is more revealed. She radiates a special holiness; the Divine Presence (Shechinah), the feminine aspect of G‑d, shines through the face of the bride.

  1. NOT TO RUN AWAY

The full-length veils were supposed to stop the bride from running away from her wedding if she changed her mind last minute.

  1. AS A SIGN OF MALE OWNERSHIP

You know that cute little moment when the groom pulls the veil from the face of his bride? Well, it’s not quite as romantic as it may seem. In reality, this tradition is all about opening a present. The woman is symbolically the gift to the man.
