In order to save money and energy, a great number of people substitute the traditional light bulbs with the energy-saving, eco-friendly bulbs. Nevertheless, what is more important is that the latest energy-saving, eco-friendly light bulbs are extremely toxic.
As a result, the Protection Agency of the United States has got out an emergency plan that people should follow if the light bulbs break, because they contain very toxic compounds.
Namely, if this kind of light bulb breaks in your home it will release about twenty times more concentration of mercury that it is actually permitted in the air.
A team of scientists that were working on a project, which was directed by the Federal Environment Agency in Germany, at the Fraunhofer Wilhelm Institute, has confirmed the results found by the latest study. They have discovered that these eco-friendly light bulbs can lead to:
• Constant headaches
• Disorientation and dizziness
• Inability to concentrate and focus
A great number of researchers and experts have also confirmed that these light bulbs can lead to migraine, stress and cancer.
In addition, they contain great amounts of mercury, a neurotoxin that is harmful for both children and pregnant women, because it has side effects on the brain, the liver, the nervous system, kidney, and it can also lead to problems with the reproduction, as well as with the immune and the cardiovascular systems.
According to the experts, mercury also leads to loss of memory, insomnia, stress, tremors, Alzheimer’s disease, as well as even to cancer. In addition, the eco-friendly light bulbs release UV-B radiation, UV-C as well as UV rays.
The radiation is especially dangerous for the eyesight and the skin. Also, it weakens the skin tissues and the immune system, because it hinders the synthesis of the Vitamin D3. Moreover, the latest study, which was done by Peter
Braun at the Berlin Alab Laboratory, has shown that the light bulbs consist of carcinogenic compounds, which cause cancer, such as:
• Styrene – it is a petroleum by-product and liquid hydrocarbon.
• Naphthalene – it is a white crustal, unstable structure, created at the process of purifying of coal tar, which is used in mothballs and chemical production.
• Phenol – It is a toxic acid crystal compound formed from coal tar, which is mainly common in the chemical industry.
